PSC and CAEH hold joint seminar on Mental Health

Pakistan Study Centre and Chitral Association for Education and Health organized a joint seminar on “Mental Health Issues among Youth.” Director Pakistan Study Centre Prof Dr Fakhr-ul-Islam in his inaugural address highlighted the state of mental health in Pakistan. He said that 34 percent of Pakistanis suffer from mental illness one way or the other. The most dangerous aspect of mental illness is manifold increase in suicides. He said that besides raising awareness, precaution and prevention, we need to remove the stigma about mental health. He expressed surprise over the fact that people seek remedy for every disease except for mental illness. Renowned psychologist… delivered her keynote address wherein she highlighted the causes and symptoms of mental diseases. In her presentation, she showed case studies and success stories. The participants from all departments of Peshawar University and various localities of Peshawar asked questions during the session. The Chief Executive of CAEH Mr. Bahar Ahmad representatives Umair Khalilullah, Prof. Shafique Ahmad and Abdul Hameed Khan also spoke on the occasion.
