Applications are invited from Pakistani Nationals for appointment of Research Assistant (Disaster Management) and Professional Software Engineer, under the Centre for Disaster Preparedness and Management (CDPM), University of Peshawar and University of Salford, United Kingdom project No. PMRB19 - MOBILISE - EP/P028543/1 entitled “A Collaborative Multi-Agency Platform for Building Resilient Communities” The MOBILISE PROJECT, with the following terms and conditions:

Salary Scale:

PKR. 30,000/Month

The eligible candidates should have strong academic background with 1st class Master Degree or Minimum 3.0 CGPA in BS Disaster Management and be enrolled in MS/M. Phil or Ph.D. Disaster Management programme in HEC recognized University. The applicants should not have more than one second division with no third division in the entire academic career.

The successful candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills, good organizational skills, ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team, travelling to project sites, preparing project reports, writing new proposals, and presenting data and manuscript writing.

Professional Software Engineer

(No of posts 01)

 

Salary Scale:

 PKR. 95,000/month  (inclusive of admissible government taxes)

The eligible candidates should have strong academic background with 1st class Master Degree or Minimum 3.0 CGPA in BS Computer Sciences/B.Sc. Software Engineering from HEC recognized institution. The applicants should not have more than one second division with no third division in the entire academic career. The Applicant should have three to five years experience in web application development. The project team is looking for an outstanding individual who has experience in web application development (both back-end and front-end). The applicant should have experience in languages such as javascript, HTML5/CSS, Java, and backend technologies such as Node.js, PostgreSQL/Postgis, MongoDB.  Good programming knowledge in C# and C++ will be advantageous.  Before final selection, candidates may be asked to develop a prototypical application in the specified area using the specified tools.

 

ROLE DETAIL: SOFTWARE ENGINEER

ROLE PURPOSE:

Applications are sought for a Software Engineer post to support the delivery of the MOBILISE project (www.mobilise-project.org.uk), funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund at THINKlab (www.salford.ac.uk/thinklab), University of Salford and University of Peshawar (www.uop.edu.pk ). The Software Engineer will be responsible for providing software development support for the MOBILISE project to develop a series of collaborative disaster risk reduction scenarios within Pakistan.  

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To work with the Mobilise Project team at the University of Peshawar and Provincial Disaster Management Authority to define collaborative disaster risk reduction scenarios that exploits the power of risk information, data and observatories etc.
  • To support the MOBILISE team (www.mobilise-project.org.uk ) to develop disaster case scenarios (riverine flood, urban flood and landslide) on the MOBILISE web-based platform that has been developed by the THINKlab.
  • To enhance the usability of the MOBILISE platform interface that is running on a multi-touch table.
  • Ensure that the Project Principal Investigator at the University of Salford and Project Co-Investigator at the University of Peshawar are regularly informed of study progress and issues pertinent to future progress.
  • Disseminate outcomes from the project through internal and external conferences.
  • Ensure project progress is in line with agreed timescales.
  • Collection, processing and interpretation of data to a very high standard.
  • Maintain high standards of academic and commercial confidentiality.
  • To ensure that research is conducted to appropriate ethical and governance standards as defined by the University.

CONTRACT DURATION:

The initial appointment will be for one year which will be extended for the remaining project duration on the satisfactory performance of the applicant and availability of the funds from collaborating University. These positions are purely on contract basis under the project.
