Dr. Shah Faisal embraces "Best Research Paper Award" in Natural sciences


Peshawar: Dr. Shah Faisal an academic from University of Peshawar’s National Centre of Excellence in Geology has won the “Best Research Paper Award” in natural science category. His paper titled as “Rifting, subduction and collisional records from pluton petrogenesis and geochronology in the Hindu Kush, NW Pakistan”.  He gathers his award from federal minister of defense production, science and technology Rana Tanvir Hussain  during 6th  HEC Outstanding Research Awards 2015-2016 ceremony in HEC auditorium on thursday.

Dr. Shah Faisal has Ph.D. in earth sciences, with specialization in tectonic and structural geology from the University of British Columbia, Canada. He has a Master’s degree in structural geology from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

 In addition, he has M. Phil. and M.Sc. degrees in geology from the University of Peshawar, Pakistan.

Recently, Dr. Shah has been awarded Pak – US research grant of $277,755.00. In this joint project, his US collaborator Dr. Robinson Delores from Alabama University, USA has been awarded $180, 000. The main objective of this project is to better understand the thrust belt geometry and document the kinematic evolution of the Salt Range-Photohar Plateau, Kohat Plateau,and Bannu Basin to determine the hydrocarbon potential of the region.

He is a co-author of the Annotated Geological Bibliography of Northern Pakistan up to 2002.

Dr. Shah Faisal was born and raised in a small village Chapri in Cherat of   District Nowshera.
