Seminar at Area Study Centre commemorates 70 years of Diplomatic Relationships between Pakistan and Russia


Peshawar: Area Study Centre (Russia, China and Central Asia), University of Peshawar, Peshawar, Pakistan and Mr. Arsallah Khan, the Honorary Councilor General of Russian Federation for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA, Pakistan, has jointly organized a Seminar to Commemorate Seventy (70) Years of Diplomatic Relations Between Pakistan and Russia, Tuesday, 20th February, 2018 at Area Study Centre (Russia, China and Central Asia), University of Peshawar.

The Honorable Ambassador of the Russian Federation, His Excellency Mr Alexey Y. Dedov graced the occasion. Prof. Dr. Minhaj ul Hassan, Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Peshawar and Prof. Dr. Sarfraz Khan, Director, Area Study Centre (Russia, China and Central Asia), University of Peshawar welcomed the Ambassador and participants of the seminar. In his speech, His Excellency Mr Alexey Y. Dedov said economic trade and defense co-operation between two countries and visits both of political and defense leadership is increasing, a welcoming sign.

Prof. Dr. Sarfraz Khan, Director, Area Study Centre (Russia, China and Central Asia), University of Peshawar, stressed to  rid the region of terrorism extremism and promote peace and economic co-operation. Paradigm shift shall take into account the interest of wellbeing of the people of Af-Pak region and work for reducing tension and promoting peace and economic co-operation.

Mr. Arsallah Khan, the Honorary Counsel of the Russian Federation for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA, Pakistan has informed that Russian Consulate has been established at Peshawar. Russian Consulate Peshawar shall facilitate singing of new Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with various Russian Academic Institutions and shall also facilitate reviving of already signed MoUs with Russian Academic Institutions.

His Excellency Mr Alexey Y. Dedov inaugurated the Pushkin Russian Language Laboratory to strengthen Russian language learning and research at Area Study Centre (Russia, China and Central Asia), University of Peshawar. Russian Consulate Peshawar shall provide assistance in provision of a Russian language teacher preferably a Russian Scholar/Citizen by the Embassy of Russian Federation, Islamabad.

Participants of the Seminar included Prof. Dr. Abid Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Shah Jehan Khan, Vice Chancellor, Iqra University Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Habib Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Islamia College Peshawar, Deans, Heads of the Departments, University of Peshawar, Members Russian Alumni Association, Faculty members, M. Phil.,/ PhD Research Scholars and Media Persons.

Prof. Dr. Sarfraz Khan, Director, Area Study Centre (Russia, China and Central Asia), University of Peshawar expressed gratitude to His Excellency Mr Alexey Y. Dedov and other participants for participating in the Seminar and presented Research Publications.
