Conference on CPEC: Opportunities & Challenges
China Study Centre, University of Peshawar has organized a conference on CPEC: Opportunities and Challenges on 10th August 2017 at SSAQ Museum at the University of Peshawar. In her inaugural speech Prof. Dr Bushra Hamid, Dean Faculty of Management and Information Sciences said that the impact of the CPEC will be long term. Experts should analyze its opportunities and challenges with meticulous care. It will help in turning the challenges of CPEC into opportunities.
Prof. Dr. Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Chairman Department of International Relations University of Peshawar in his speech said that CPEC is a flagship project of One belt one road initiative. Chinese work more and talk less. China is providing scholarships to many Pakistani students under CPEC. Muhammad Ismail Project Coordinator HKPL (Karakoram Pamir Land scape ) Katmandu Nepal stated that the environment and culture should be kept in mind while executing all the sub-projects of CPEC. Dr Farhan Saeed of Economics Department University of Peshawar was of the view that CPEC will greatly increase GDP of Pakistan when CPEC will become fully operational.
Prof. Dr. Zahid Anwar Coordinator, China Study Centre said that the Centre is established with the financial and technical support of the China Embassy Islamabad. His Excellency Sun Weidong the Ambassador of China in Pakistan personally visited the University of Peshawar to inaugurate the research Centre on China in October 2016. He also shared the details about CPEC transportation and infrastructure related projects in different parts of Pakistan. He said that CPEC is a big opportunity. All sub projects of CPEC will benefit of common Pakistanis. CPEC has support of all stakeholders especially people of Pakistan. He further stated that due to the coordination of China Study Centre, the University of Peshawar has signed MOUs with Jiangsu and Northwest Universities of China and several other MOUs are in the process. Under these MOUs many students and faculty members will go China for higher studies to China.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abid, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of University of Peshawar who was the chief guest of the conference appreciated the efforts of the China Study Centre for organizing events full of utility. The conference on CPEC today will increase awareness among people of Pakistan about CPEC and people will develop a more realistic perception about it. A large number of journalists, practitioners, faculty, scholars and students participated in the conference.
