Four Hundred & Seventy Awarded Degrees in the University of Peshawar Convocation-2016


As many as four hundred and seventy graduates including 45 PhDs were awarded degrees in the University of Peshawar Convocation 2016. Besides 25 outstanding graduates were conferred gold medals in the ceremony. Governor Khyber Pakjtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra was the chief guest of the event. He was accompanied by Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan and Registrar Dr. Syed Fazli Hadi.

Former Federal Minster Dr. Noor ul Haq Qadri was amongst the graduates who was awarded PhD degree in Islamiyat in the well-attended event.

Addressing the ceremony the Governor said that University of Peshawar was the mother institution of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who has provided outstanding professionals to the country. He added that he himself graduates as engineer from this Alma Mater in the year 1969. The Governor said that promoting education was the priority of his government and in this regard education emergency has been announced in FATA in order to enhance literacy ratio among the under privileged people living there.

Mr. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra further stated that he after assuming charge has made FATA University as functional and routine education activities has started in its campus at Akhurwal. He added that quality of education was key towards the socio economic uplift of the country and more focused was being paid to education to achieve this long-lasting goal.

The Prime Minister fee reimbursement scheme and Laptop scheme was a major step towards helping the needy students and making them current with international standards.

Prof. Dr. Rasul Jan in his address said that the University was fast moving towards contributing more to the knowledge based economy. He added the University has made significant achievement in academic and infrastructure development over the past three years.
