UoP Convocation 2014 held on 4 November, 2015
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahamd Khan conferred 494 degrees on the occasion of convocation-2015 for the session of 2013 held on Wednesday.
Thirty Five outstanding performers were given gold medals for standing first in their respective departments, comprising 19 females and 16 males. Besides 26 Ph. D and seven M. Phil scholars were also awarded the highest research degrees.
Out of the 494 students 282 were females while 212 were males. Degrees were given to students of six faculties and 49 departments.
Addressing the convocation ceremony Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan offered his deepest felicitations to the graduating students, their teachers and happy parents. He added that the students’ achievement showed their gratitude and abiding respect towards their institution.
The Governor underlined that only the growth of the universities in the country would be quite meaningless without focusing on the research, publication and development. It is really consoling and heartening to know that the HEC ranking of the University of Peshawar this year has improved.
He hoped that this graph further moves upwards and the University of Peshawar becomes second to none in the years ahead. The Chancellor appreciated the university authorities for high improvement and delivering quality education. He also encouraged the students to work hard in practical life and achieve the high goals.
The chancellor advised that education aim is not only to do a job is get money but it aim to build a successful nation and get name for their country. “Job seekers cannot achieve high status as they only seek job not think for the betterment of people and country”, he said.
Governor Mehtab Ahmed Khan announced rupees one hundred thousand each for two specially able students (Disable) as a token of appreciation for completing masters degrees with distinction. He also announced free admission for them in their research degree programmes ahead. The students included Mr. Owais Alam, who did Masters in Political Science and Ms. Sakina Afridi who did her Masters in Urdu.
The UoP Vice Chancellor Prof Rasul Jan while presenting the annual performance report said that the unique spectrum of University was to impart nursery to Ph. D education. He added that more than 23,000 students were studying in the six different faculties comprising of about 49 departments, institutes, centres, colleges and schools. VC shared that in last three years university has recorded progress both in academic and financial management. He said that in 2014-15 university has produced 163 Phd and have received 9 mega projects. He said that in last two nine of UoP teachers have awarded Tamgah-e-Imtiaz for their better performance.
On this occasion vice chancellors of public sectors universities of KP, registrar of UoP, member of syndicate and senate, deans of faculties, students and their parents participated in the ceremony.
