Call for Paper: One-day National Conference on Reciprocity in Academia and Professional Practice in Visual Arts and Design
Organized by: Department of Art and Design, University of Peshawar
Introduction:
The growth in education, entertainment and technology has led to a significant increase in the scope of art education and its practices. Academia, a platform for the artists, designers, curators and researchers, is playing a fundamental role to the concept of reciprocity in general, i.e. collaboration, participation, relation, dialogue, friendship and community. It further determines the contributions of the practitioners as playing an essential role in dissemination of narratives about the art as well as anything related to its role in the society. Like any other systems, Art Academies with its existing structure needs a thorough upgradation. It needs to functionally fit in the social structure and its growing needs. This could only be possible with a more integrating approach by filling the gap between Academia and Industry. This renaissance in global education setup that requires serious integration of education to current life problems through collaborative and real-time projects is strongly needed in our current setup as well.
Main goal of this conference is thus to bring together interdisciplinary art professionals from various practicing fields. This conference will scrutinize the ways, discourses and practices that art academies are playing in training the artists and designers professionally and appropriately. The development of mass media, publications in print media and exhibitions and museums across the region would be thoroughly examined to see whether the academia is configuring appropriate and relevant educational models? It will further explore the new interventions in education systems; particularly in pedagogies, studio setup and equipment and creative strategies that could help in curbing the local, national and global crisis.
