Symposium on "Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care"
The Faculty of Department of Environmental Sciences (University of Peshawar) in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Pakistan has proudly organized Environmental Science Symposium on the occasion of World Environment Day (WED) 2015. World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. It also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet. The well-being of humanity, the environment, and the functioning of the economy, ultimately depend upon the responsible management of the planet’s natural resources. Evidence is building that people are consuming far more natural resources than what the planet can sustainably provide. The WED theme this year is therefore, "Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care." Living sustainably is about knowing that rising rates of natural resource use and the environmental impacts that occur are not a necessary by-product of economic growth. Unsustainable consumption, degradation of natural resources, extreme natural disasters in the midst of overpopulation and continuing industrialization – are the problems that face us all. This Symposium will provide a forum for the discussion of scientific advancements on the human- environment interactions. In this symposium several national speakers have promised to share their ideas and initiate fruitful discussion. Moreover graduate students across campus will have the opportunity to showcase their research work.
This Symposium will be held at Bara Gali summer campus from 14-16 August, 2015. Conference coordinator Dr. Bushra Khan @ 0345-9778838 or bushraasu@yahoo.com.
