WWF Eco Internship

WWF-Pakistan | Digital Eco-Internship Programme

Members of the Environment Society, from different departments, participated in this programme organised by the World Wide Fund (WWF). EnvSoc collaborated with WWF and informed its members of this great opportunity.

WWF is recognized as one of the world's largest conservation organisations in the world, with a global network active in more than 100 countries. Established in 1970, WWF-Pakistan has been working for over 50 years to conserve Pakistan's nature and ecological processes.

WWF-Pakistan is dedicated to creating environmental awareness by providing environmental education through its Educational Programmes.  The programmes empower and engage students, belonging to varied disciplines and age groups by sensitising them on the global environmental issues, and the role these students can play as emerging leaders of the nation. WWF believes in harnessing the potential of youth for building a future in which people live in harmony with nature. Through their Youth Development Programme, they aim to catalyse change for making the biggest differences: from protecting key species and habitats to transforming the lifestyles of individuals paving way for a sustainable future. Their Youth Development Programme provides students with an opportunity to unleash their potential as environmental stewards, by engaging them in several Training-based Internship Programmes, Certified Workshops, Outdoor Educational Programmes, and Community Action Projects.

In this regard, they engaged the University of Peshawar students, particularly members of EnvSoc, in their internship programme titled, "Digital Eco-Internship Programme (DEIP) - World Without Waste".

WWF-Pakistan Eco Internship Programme was launched in 2009. The programme aims to train, empower, and mobilize youth on environmental issues through online interactive workshops and community service projects.

Amid the Coronavirus pandemic, WWF-Pakistan and The Coca-Cola Foundation under the programme World Without Waste launched an initiative to inform and engage youth in an action-oriented project. By the end of the programme, the participants not only learnt the new concepts and ways of minimising waste but also practically contributed towards the cause of Pakistan Without Waste. The themes include climate change, natural resource conservation, eco-preneurship, circular economy, and modules related to professional growth such as fundamental interview skills, CV writing, etc.
