Dr Bushra Khan
Ph.D , Purdue University, USA in Soil Sciences
Research Interest: Dr. Bushra Khan is an Associate Professor of Environmental Chemistry at the Department of Environmental Sciences at University of Peshawar, Pakistan. Dr. Khan specializes in the biodegradation and fate of emerging toxic contaminants (hormones, pharmaceuticals, personal care products and Dioxins) and sorption processes with specific interest in the role of black carbon and biochar in such processes. She has expertise in the area of environmental organic chemistry, primarily in analyzing environmental fate and behavior, with additional background in soil microbiology and risk assessment. During her doctoral work, she designed and implemented experimental procedures to test the biodegradation and sorption of emerging contaminants in aerobic soils; Developed integrated spectroscopic and chromatographic analytical methods for the analysis of sorption mechanisms of dioxins; Designed experiments to analyze the interaction mechanisms between organic compounds and various geosorbents. Her analytical expertise include; soil microcosm and sorption techniques, operating and calibrating various analytical instruments including; liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry (LC/MS) analyses, FTIR and Micro FTIR, Raman, XRD, TGA, DSC. Dr. Khan attended Purdue University, first as a Fulbright pre-doctoral scholar and then as a PhD student. Here she served as a research assistant in the Department of Agronomy-Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences. In addition to her graduate work, she taught courses in Environmental soil Chemistry, Soil Microbiology, Soil and plant analyses for undergraduate and graduate students.
