Master's Degree in Islamic studies
About the Course:
The Department runs two year Master’s course in Islamic Studies since its establishment in 1956. The course comprises of ten taught modules and a viva-voce examination or writing of a Research Thesis (optional and only for interested regular students) that has recently been introduced. Examinations are conducted at the end of each Academic year by the University. All evaluations are external. Students registered under the regular scheme of Studies are provided further guidance in the shape of class assignments, seminars, Quiz Competitions, other extramural activities during the study year. An approximate number of 5000 students have been appearing in this degree programme since last few years throughout Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in the capacity of “Private Students”.

MS/MPhil in Islamic Studies
About the Course:
The department started MPhil degree programme during 1980s which was later on converted to MPhil leading to PhD in 2005. 53 scholars have so far obtained degrees of Master’s in Philosophy from the department. The MPhil courses have recently been upgraded in cognizance of the contemporary challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah. Besides Research Methodology these modules include: Intellectual History of the Contemporary Muslim World, Semitic and non-Semitic Religions, Islamic Economic and Finance, study of Islamic civilization, study of contemporary Radical Islamic Movements, use of information and Communication Technology (ICT) for research in Islamic Studies.

PhD in Islamic studies
About the Course:
The department started PhD program in late 1970s. Presently this scheme of studies comprises of 18 credit hours course work. All the six courses (each of three credit hours) under this scheme are core courses and must be passed with a CGPA of 3.5 out of 4.0. New courses recently introduced to the programme include: A Comparative Study of the Juristic Schools of Thought, Thematic and Textual Study of the Sacred Texts, Theology and Polemics: The Ethics of Disagreement in Islam and Islam in Diaspora.
