Community Service Program
Community service is work done by a person or group of people that benefits others. More specifically, engaging students in community service with the spirit of volunteering oneself for eradication of social problems and building healthy and peaceful society for all. It is an initiative and practical involvement of youth in community service which contribute them self-confidence and self-responsibility. Such undertakings and creativity spring a natural sense of achievement among youth which eventually upshots in a sense of pride and identity.
Community service program, previously known as Social Work Program, is a mandatory social activity for the regular students on the rolls of Constituent, Professional, Affiliated Colleges/Teaching Departments/Institutions of the University of Peshawar preparing students for the 1st degree examinations. Since 1974-75, the program was limited to BA, B.Sc, B.Com (two years) program of affiliated colleges, however, in 2015, the Community Service has been made an essential component of the BS 04 Year program through an amendment in Social Work Regulations 1974-75 of the University of Peshawar.
The Office of the Controller of Examinations, University of Peshawar do not entertain any examination form of regular students until they have completed community service work and produced a clearance certificate from the office of the community service program.
Mission:
To provide education to students with social responsibility by engaging them in community-oriented work to become active members of their community which has a long lasting, positive impact on society at large. Community service also aim to develop a sense of volunteerism which enable students to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide a service to those who need it most.
Vision:
Building responsible citizens with a sense of compassion, civility and initiative ability to solve community problems with self-help spirit.
Objectives:
- To develop a sense of dignity for labour among the students
- To engage graduate students in community-oriented work for the welfare of society
- To provide a platform to graduate students to channelize their energies in constructive activities
- To develop and inculcate a sense of social responsibility for the welfare of poor segments of society.
- To strengthen the awareness of the students of affiliated Colleges and University of Peshawar regarding designing and implementing social-oriented-projects.
