INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CPEC: COLLABORATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
China Study Centre, University of Peshawar in collaboration with Embassy of the People Republic of China, HEC, HED and partner Universities has organized an International Conference on, “CPEC: Collaboration in Higher Education and Sustainable Development” on 19th-21st February 2019 at the University of Peshawar. More than 30 experts from Pakistan and abroad presented their papers. The inaugural session took place at the Khushal Hall, Pearl Continental Hotel, Peshawar on 9 Feb 2019. A large number of experts diplomats, intellectuals, journalists, government officials, faculty and students participated in the session. The objective of the conference was to scientifically analyze the socio-cultural, geo-economic, politico-strategic impacts of CPEC on Pakistan and the region.
Prof.Dr. Zahid Anwar, The chief organizer and China Study Center’s Director in his welcome address stated that the main purpose of the conference is to invite experts form diverse fields in order to their perspectives on CPEC.and He welcomed all the participants especially the Chinese experts for participation in the conference.
Dr. Safdar Ali Shah, Director General CPEC CELL, HEC, Islamabad in his presentation highlighted the significance of connectivity and said that as 21st century is the era of connectivity and collaboration between the Universities of China and Pakistan is required. He said that under CPEC the cooperation has increased between the institutions of higher education of Pakistan and China and furthermore assured that the Platform of HEC is always there for assistance.
Prof.Dr Zhang Jiadong, the learned Professor from renowned Fudan University, Shanghai in his speech praised the location and climate of the Peshawar city and stated that the organizing such international conference in Peshawar is a good omen for the regional peace and development as well as elucidates about the changing situations of South-Asia. He said that Pakistan and China friendship is important for the Peace of South-Asia. For sustainable development and higher education, Pakistan and Chinese universities cooperation required.
Dr. Habib Ahmad, Vice Chancellor of Islamia College University, Peshawar said that has welcomed collaboration with Chinese counterparts. He appreciated China study center, University of Peshawar, for the initiative to organize international conference on the useful and fruitful theme.
Prof. Dr. S.M. Saqlan Naqvi, Vice Chancellor of Bacha Khan University
in his address has stated that Bacha Khan University welcome academic collaboration with Chinese and Pakistani Universities . He also acknowledged the efforts of China Study Centre, University of Peshawar for organizing the conference.
Dr. Muhammad Azhar Khan Niazi, President, Qurtuba University said that it's an honor to be at this conference and hoped that the recommendations of the conference will be circulated to all the stakeholders. He expressed his profound gratitude to friendly country China for its unwavering commitment to provide world-class infrastructure for the development of Pakistan.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan, who was the chief guest of the conference, appreciated the earnest efforts of Prof. Dr. Zahid Anwar for organizing the conference in collaboration with partner institutions and said that climate changes are occurring in the region which requires a collective response of the regional states particularly China and Pakistan. He hoped for collaboration between the universities of China and Pakistan particularly in the fields of Geology, Geography and disaster management.
Prof Dr Razia Sultana, Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University in her vote of thanks speech said that this international conference on CPEC is a continuation of series of conferences on the theme and assured Prof. Dr Zahid Anwar of her support to make this International Conference successful. The worthy Vice Chancellor thanked all the distinguished guests who participated in the inaugural session of the conference which was followed by Dinner.
Mr. Shahram Khan, Minister of Local Government, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa graced the the concluding session of the conference as the chief guest and on the occasion has highlighted that the provincial and federal governments are fully supporting the CPEC and hoped that it will strengthen peace and development in Pakistan and the region at large
