CPEC: A PROJECT FOR PROMOTION OF EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT
The Institute of Education and Research, University of Peshawar has organized a seminar on, “ CPEC: A PROJECT FOR PROMOTION OF EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT” on 28 November 2019 at 9.30 am at the conference hall of IER. Prof Dr Hafiz Muhammad Inamullah was the Stage Secretary.
Prof Dr Zahid Anwar, Director, China Study Centre, UOP was the Chief Guest who delivered a presentation on, “ CPEC: A PROJECT FOR PROMOTION OF EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT”. He said that under CPEC the high ranking Universities of China and Pakistan are collaborating with one another in different fields including joint research projects, faculty and students training. 28000 students of Pakistan are now studying in China on Chinese scholarships. 75000 thousands citizens of Pakistan have got jobs in CPEC projects. 20000 more students will get opportunity to get higher education in China. China will establish six agriculture research Centres in Pakistan. HEC and CAHE are exploring new avenues of mutual cooperation in the realm of higher education. Through the coordinated efforts of China Study Centre, University of Peshawar signed MOUs with many high ranking Universities of China and many students and faculty of UOP visited China for short and long courses. Professor Anwar advised students to scientifically and objectively study CPEC and counter propaganda against it and explore the potential opportunities of BRI and CPEC.
It is pertinent to note that the history of IER goes back to 1920’s. It became College of Education on 14th October 1963. In 1980, the college was elevated to Institute of Education & Research (IER). IER imparts training to prospective and in-service teachers of primary, secondary and higher secondary schools. The Institute offers various professional courses, B.Ed. (Bachelors of Education), M.Ed. (Masters of Education), M.Phil and Ph.D. it has all the necessary facilities of a teacher training institution.
Prof Dr Arshad Ali, Director, IER threw light on different academic activities and programs of IER and hoped for cooperation in the field of education with Chinese counterparts. He thanked Prof Dr Zahid Anwar for delivering a thought provoking and useful presentation. More than 200 students, researchers, faculty members and experts participated in the seminar.
