ACADEMIC COOPERATION BETWEEN SIIS, CHINA & CSC, UOP, PAKISTAN
China Study Centre, University of Peshawar is developing academic linkages and promoting cooperation with renowned research institutions of China. In this connections Prof. Dr Zahid Anwar Director, China Study Centre, University of Peshawar visited Shanghai Institute of International Studies (SIIS) on 13th August 2019. Founded in 1960, the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies(SIIS) is a government-affiliated high-caliber think tank dedicated to informing government decision-making by conducting policy-oriented studies in world politics, economics, foreign policy, and international security. SIIS maintains intensive and extensive exchanges and cooperation with research institutions at home and abroad. SIIS as a think tank enjoying a high reputation at home and abroad has embraced the spirit of “industry and originality” and “patriotism and cosmopolitism” by advising for the central government and the Shanghai municipal government as well, pursuing academic diplomacy, playing proactive role of opinion leader both within China and across the world. In a world that is politically polarized, economically globalized, culturally diversified and socially informationized, SIIS is striving for peace and development and win-win cooperation.
Prof Zahid Anwar held a meeting with CHEN Dongxiao, President of the SIIS.Prof. Dr. Chen Dongxiao got his Ph.D from Fudan University. He specializes in studies of the United Nations, China’s foreign policy, and China-U.S. relations. Dr Chen is the chief editor of China Quarterly of International Strategic Studies (CQISS), a flagship English journal on China’s diplomacy. He also holds the position of Vice Chair of the China National Association for International Relations and is a senior adviser on economic diplomacy for China’s Foreign Ministry.
Prof Dr Zahid Anwar also met Prof Dr SHAO Yuqun and Prof Dr LI Hongmei, two senior SIIS experts on South Asia. The institute is located in the downtown Shanghai. Thorough discussion took place among the experts on different issues of South Asia including Afghanistan crises, Indian occupied Kashmir and revocation of Article 370/35A, BRI, CPEC and strengthening relations between China of Pakistan, then the president of SIIS Prof Dr. arranged lunch in honor of Prof Dr Zahid Anwar and discussed cooperation between the two prestigious institutions. Prof Dr CHEN Dongxiao, the SIIS President assured support to Prof Dr Zahid Anwar regarding academic cooperation and exchanges and joint research projects. Prof Dr Zahid Anwar thanked the President of SIIS for the hospitality and support and also thanked CIIS particularly its Vice President Prof Dr Rong Ying, who has arranged this meeting.
