LINKAGES DEVELOPMENT BETWEEN CHINA STUDY CENTRE, UNIVERSITY OF PESHAWAR (PAKISTAN) AND PAKISTAN STUDY CENTRE, FUDAN UNIVERSITY (CHINA)
Fudan University was established in 1905 as Fudan Public School. After the nationwide restructuring of institutions of higher education in 1952, Fudan University became a comprehensive university of arts and sciences. Fudan University was merged with Shanghai Medical University in 2000, forming a new, stronger Fudan University with a broader set of disciplines: medicine, sciences, and arts. As one of the first participants in the 211 and 985 Projects, Fudan has developed into a comprehensive research university, with Departments of Philosophy, Economics, Law, Education, Literature, History, Science, Engineering, Medicine, and Management.
Prof Dr Zahid Anwar, Director, China Study Centre, University of Peshawar visited Pakistan Study Centre Fudan University in Shanghai, China on 13th August 2019 and held meeting with Prof Dr Du Youkang Director, Pakistan Study Centre, Fudan University, Shanghai, China. Pakistan Study Centre, Fudan University is one of the most prestigious research Cenytres on Pakistan in China. Professor Du Youkang remained at Shanghai Institute for International Studies as research fellow, senior fellow and director of Department of South Asian Studies from 1984 to 2001. He also worked at Chinese Embassy in Islamabad as First Secretary (political) until 2005 as well as deputy head of Political Section of the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi (2008-2010). Professor Du Youkang and Professor Zhang Jeigen are two researchers of the Centre and who are considered leading experts on Pakistan.
Prof Du Youkang is an expert on Pakistan and Afghanistan Region. The two experts discussed in details regional issues especially Afghanistan crises, and Pakistan and India relations. Prof Du Youkang has visited Pakistan several times and has visited Peshawar many times as well. He has conducted research on Afghan Refugees and visited refugees` Camp at Kacha Gari in the 1980's. It was a pleasant surprise for Prof Dr. Zahid Anwar to meet in Shanghai an expert of Prof Du stature. The two heads of Institutions discussed in detail prospects of academic collaboration.
