Day-1 Workshop On Future Governance Structure In FATA & An Alternate To 40-FCR: A Legal Perspective
The history of FATA is a dynamic combination of social processes, economic change and political realignments. There is a dire need for improvement, change, reforms, alterations and transformation of the region which are acknowledged to be broad in their compass. Thus, FATA needs structural reforms- social, political and economic. As part of its mandate, Cell for FATA Studies, University of Peshawar undertakes a major academic and pragmatic program for the FATA region with respect to future governance and alternate to 40-FCR. It aims to analyze peoples’ rights, development, social transformation, local government, political reforms, effective administrative system and a positive governance structure. Through the synthesis, it plans to generate insights and recommendations for effective governance and legal system in FATA.
In this regard, the Cell for FATA Studies situated at the University of Peshawar hosted a two day workshop on Future Governance Structure In FATA & An Alternate To 40-FCR: A Legal Perspective.
Six eminent scholars, policy makers and journalists addressed more than 150 students, teachers, and members of the civil society. They discussed future governance structure in historical perspective as well as in terms of following three options for the future governance setup:
-FATA as an independent province like Gilgil-Baltistan Model
-FATA to be amalgamated with KP
-FATA as status quo
