Reunion of Department of Islamiyat

The Department of Islamiyat, University of Peshawar organized its first ever Alumni Reunion on 28th May, 2016 at PUTA Hall. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan was Chief Guest at the occasion. Former Vice Chancellor, University of Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz and senior administrative officers of the University of Peshawar also graced the occasion with their presence. More than 100 alumni of the Department as well as teachers working as faculty in various Universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa joined the gathering and revived their memories and time spent at the Department.

The graduates of Department are working both at national and International level on key positions like Dr. Hafiz Abdul Ghaffar as Director, Islamic Center Georgia, USA, Dr. Muhammad Zaman Marwat as Director, Islamic Center New York, USA, and Justice Dr. Fida Muhammad Khan is working as senior Judge in Federal Sharia Court of Pakistan. Similarly, graduates of the Department are working as faculty in various universities of Europe, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan highlighted role of the Department of Islamiyat. He said that society needs such religious scholars who could address new legal issues and challenges.

Professor Dr. Qibla Ayaz at this occasion shared history of the Alumni tradition exploring its roots from Greek scholars. He further said that the Alumni Associations could prove an effective tool for enhancing academic excellence by arranging seminars, workshops, and sessions for book reviews. It can also be utilized for supporting financially challenged students.

Dean, Faculty of Islamic & oriental Studies, Prof. Dr. Mirajul Islam Zia shared some recent achievements of the Department and focused on the promotion of the Department. He said that so far the Department has produced 75 PhDs, 35 M. Phil, and more than 3000 graduates.

At the end Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan and Dean, Faculty of Islamic and Oriental Studies, Prof. Dr. Mirajul Islam gave Certificates to the participants.
